Gravatar, Oh Gravatar

A what did you say?

The Globally Recognized Avatar or Gravatar is a universal logo supported by all the bloggers in the WWW universe. A gigantic catalog of icons or logos that is keyed to your email helps identify you as you blog or comment on other people’s blogs. You can easily set up your Gravatar in the settings page of a wordpress.com blog. Or, you can go directly to gravatar.com. Canadian Christine McIvor has a neat little YouTube video that describes the process – Click Here.  She doesn’t get into a lot of detail about uploading the image but if you need help you can contact chiefblogger@tpmtech.biz. She does have an extensive series of video tutorials on a wide range of topics including blogging and social media. Check out Christine’s site here.

Mayo Clinic 20th Century health pioneer, 21st Century SM pioneer!

One of my favorite organizations, the Mayo Clinic has shown us all up. They experimented and embraced Social Media early. They epitomize a real leader in their industry. Long respected in the 20th century for paving the way for more effective health care structures they have continued that tradition in the 21st century with social media. You can see an unbelieivable blog site by clicking here.  Another article from the Jacksonville Business Journal reviews the history of their social media endeavors. Read it here. My favorite quote from this article is:

“Having a company Web site is so five years ago. Social media — the umbrella term for blogs, social networks, photo video and podcasts, and other user-generated mediums — is the new era. And the possibilities are seemingly endless.”

Pepsi bypasses SUPER bowl for Social Media

As an experiment in “Pepsi Generation”, pepsico opted out of its long running advertising campaign in the SUPER BOWL and instead ventured into some more interesting things in social media. You might not have the resources of Pepsi but social media can represent a new, inexpensive way to get the word out about your product or service. You can read one account of it here.
