New meaning to Can Do- John Deere makes 300,000 ‘canned statement’ with Social Media

How many cans does it take to make a combine? Celebrating the roll-out of their new series combine, John Deere took a ‘canned’ approach. A can sculpture at the company’s Pavilion is under construction. Here is a snap from the live web-cam. The company has a number of social media focused activities around the charitable project. The sculpture is a 3-D mosaic using about 300,000 cans. After the display holds down the floor of the pavilion for a number of days the sculpture will be removed and donated to a local food pantry. John Deere feels it is a symbol of their role in American agriculture. You can visit the Can-do project Facebook page and customize your own can wrapper and participate in the event. You can watch “Behind the scene’ videos from YouTube or see the progress live from a web cam. The participants are talking about setting a new record for largest can sculpture. Check it out!

Holy Thanksgiving, Batman! Do you think it wise to name the Wayne estate in Turkey, Batman?

Alfred: Master Robin, are you speaking double-talk?

Robin: No Alfred, the bat-computer just fixed the coordinates of Batman in Turkey.

Alfred: But Robin, he is right here in the batcave.

Batman: Yes, I’m afraid Alfred, that Robin has a point. I fear it is too late to change it now. Make arrangements for us to fly to Turkey to divest of the Wayne estate.

Alfred: Are you sure you want to miss the lept Like A Blog social media marketing class?

Robin: Holy bat-tweets, Alfred, we can’t miss that.

Batman: Quite right Robin, we’ll have to wait until after the class.

Robin: It will be over by Thanksgiving.

Alfred: I’ll make the arrangments for then.

Batman: We can have our Thanksgiving turkey in Turkey.

Alfred: I wish you gentlemen could speak without double-talk.

Announcer: Will Robin have cranberry sauce with his turkey in Turkey?

Will Batman remain Batman or will Batman leave Batman to be called Wishbone?

Is this a trap by the Joker to lure Batman from the Batcave? Stay tuned next week, same bat-time, same bat-channel to find out. In the meantime join Batman and Robin and attend the next social media marketing class, set your bat-calendar to November 15 at 5-7pm. Click here to send a quick enquiry.

Holy Skype, Batman! Let’s use the Batphone!

“Yes, Robin, good idea! With our specialized circuits from select telecom, we’ll be ringing in microseconds.”

“I especially like how they rigged up our theme song to play while you’re on hold”

“No time for that now, Robin, we have to get through!”

“Holy Hold Button! Any answer, Batman? Will we be able to get into the YouTube class?”

“Yes, Robin, we are in luck, thanks to our superior technology. I feel sorry for those less fortunate who may miss out on a grand opportunity to catch the next YouTube class starting this week (June 9).”

Announcer: “Will Robin be able to run the camera?” “Will Batman bring his collection of stuffed bats to make his YouTube video?” “Will Alfred get his finger caught in the clap board?” Find the answer to these and other bat-teries of questions at the next YouTube class starting June 9. No need for Skype or the batphone, you can just email your interest by clicking here.

Is it “Beep, beep” or “Tweet, tweet?”

Holy Betamax Batman, it’s a YouTu Bee!

                        SCENE

        The Bat Cave

Batman: “Yes Robin, Apis Videre, a highly intelligent, busy marketer that knows the value of a moving picture is worth a thousand words a thousand fold.”

Robin: “Sounds like a riddle to me.”

Batman:”Quite correct Robin, but don’t be fooled by his tricky nature.”

Robin:”What should we do Batman?”

Batman:”I’m afraid Robin, there is little we can do. This little stinger is just too much for our Bat brains to handle”

Robin:”The next thing you know he will be sporting QR codes on his wings!!”

Batman:”Robin! That’s it! Yes, you better load the QR scanner app into the Bat-phone. You very well have found our only chance…”

YouTu be or Not tuBe?

That is the question.

Should you consider adding a YouTube channel to your marketing campaign? Here’s the Pro’s and Con’s.

PROs

  1. Increased Exposure. YouTube currently has 2 BILLION views per day. Even with a million to one odds that means you could reach a potential 2000 viewers.
  2. Picture’s worth a thousand words. If you have a 2 minute video with 30 frames per second that’s 3,600,000 words!
  3. Increasing audience. In the last 30 years the number of people watching the news and TV has dropped by 50%. What are they doing? They are on the Internet instead.

CONs

  1. Increased Exposure. If you really don’t want people to know about your business or what you do or how happy your customers are don’t bother to consider YouTube. Increasing the awareness of your product or service could only bring new potential customers.
  2. Picture’s worth a thousand words. Potential customers might actually understand what you do. You may not want them to.
  3. Increasing audience. You can spend your money on “traditional” advertising avenues like TV that has 50% of the audience it had 30 years ago. You can leverage, negatively, your advertising dollars to reach increasingly fewer customers. What a bargain!

The techs at the cyber wigwam have put together a new series of classes for 2011 that help introduce you to YouTube. And just like the Social Media marketing framework, Social Media Bloggerfly, you can now be a You Too Bee with a new 4-class series focused on YouTube. The new series of classes are scheduled to start in February, 2011. Stay tuned to a YouTube channel close to you!
